Onyx

What is Onyx?

A translucent stone with a glossy, polished surface, ONYX is composed of crystalline silica and closely related to agate, a semiprecious stone.

Often found in caves, onyx is formed by the slow flow of cold, carbonated spring water.

Onyx is available in pastel shades of yellow, brown, green, orange, and white.

Characteristics and Applications of Onyx

Due to the natural translucency of onyx, it is often set on metal frameworks and back-lit to achieve a dramatic look for ceiling lighting fixtures, shower walls, and even unique light-up counter-tops.

Onyx can be used in a variety of applications. It is most often used for vertical surfaces and other areas where its varying delicacy makes little difference.

In the photo above, you can see how we used white onyx for master bath wall, floor, shower and bath. The natural veining and light in the white onyx created a one of a kind bath!

Owners were very satisfied with the bath transformation and new work of art.
